 Located on the Lumpkin County/Union County line along Georgia Highway 60, this is most people's gateway to Suches. This is where the wide world is left behind and one enters the "Valley Above the Couds" as Suches is called. The Appalachian Trail crosses the highway here, having started 20 miles to the south on Springer Mountain. Hikers that are intending to traverse the length of the trail can be seen crossing the road in early spring, probably March. sometimes they hike down to Suches to buy supplies at the general store or pick up a parcel at the post office. |
